Racer 13 began in 2009, sparked by a simple idea to help out a racer friend with a resume. TEAM MANAGERS:
We've helped sponsor several riders to include:
As avid riders & race goers, Sammy & Shelly have been involved in the racing circuit one way or another since the early 1990's. This is where the real passion started. In 2000 Shelly attended the CA Superbike School & Sammy attended in 2002, completing their courses with flying colors and a desire to get even more involved in racing.
In 2003 Shelly was featured in a book about Women Riders in America called "Bikerlady Living & Riding Free" by Sasha Mullins (pg. 55 & 56), she was also asked to participate in another book in the same year, that was unfortunately never finished. In 2010 Shelly was inducted into the National Association of Professional Women. Shelly has been an AMA member since 1999, and is also a member of AFM & SupermotoUSA.
Who we are and how we got started...
Sammy & Shelly are both retired medics & firefighters. Both have held race crew positions of Mechanic, Crew Chief & Team Manager for teams racing in AMA, WERA, AFM & Supermoto. With this knowledge they have been able to develop Racer 13 into a productive avenue to help up and coming racers, not only with sponsorship guidance, but with compassion and understanding of what it takes to become a racer and be part of a Team. Shelly gave her riding skills a go in her very first motorcycle race as a competitor in a supermoto race at the West Coast Moto Jam, in the Women's Asphalt support race on May (Friday the 13th), 2011, where she placed in the Top 10. Shelly just wanted to see what it felt like to be a competitor, rather than just a spectator....she can now fully understand the emotions that go into a race and can better help the young riders who come to her for advice and guidance.
